The Collector's Codex

1666: Amsterdam Classes & Playstyles

Two characters, two perspectives, and one city hiding more than it wants to reveal.

The two perspectives

1666: Amsterdam is built around two characters who see the same city from radically different angles. Noa Brooklyn is the Collector: a witch who investigates the Originals, gathers Lux and Nux, and chooses how each hunt unfolds. Aaron arrives from 1999 and experiences the world through the eyes of a cat familiar.

The result is a story-led action-adventure with two complementary rhythms: deliberate investigation in the streets and spell-driven confrontations when the Esbat begins.

A good first-hour rhythm

  1. Follow the first investigation route and learn how Life Echoes reveal context.
  2. Spend time with the Lux interaction loop before chasing optional secrets.
  3. Switch to Aaron whenever a route narrows, a door is out of reach, or a citizen becomes the key to progress.
  4. Treat the Prologue as a short tutorial for the day/night structure and the game's supernatural vocabulary.
